"Consolation No. 2"
At any given moment
there are hundreds maybe thousands
of things to ruin you
and not in subtle ways either.
You might be swept off by the wind
and no one notices. You turn a corner
and some resurrected sadness
knocks you down
(sadness is good at this). But
you might hear someone say
your name and then you know
that at any given moment
despite all the names in the world
there is someone who is only
saying yours.

ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely lovely. I love the phrase "resurrected sadness" - it explains the feeling perfectly.
